As you may have seen, the Cancer Care Centre was featured in a story on the ABC News on Tuesday 11th February 2020.
The story was introduced as Australian charities were seeing a major decline in their funds due to generous donations made to those affected by Australia’s recent bushfires. In particular the report discuss with Chris McDermott around the impact on the loss of donations to the Little Hero’s Foundation.
Cancer Care Centre Manager Calandra Scott, and member Jeanne Moloney-Nicholls were interviewed and focused on work of the Centre and the support they provide to members. Unfortunately as the Centre featured in the opening and for more than 1 minute of the interview the report left viewers with the impression that the Cancer Care Centre was struggling for funds and may shut its doors in the next few months.
I can reassure our members and the general public that the Cancer Care Centre is a financially viable organisation, with solid liquid assets and that we will not be closing our doors in the near or distant future.
Cancer Care Centre agrees that not-for-profit organisations funded through a combination of memberships, donations and bequests would find it very hard to exist without the generosity of donors.
We value the contributions from community members – large or small, which all contribute to the Cancer Care Centre providing a valuable service to our members and their families.
