Earlier this year we lost the centre of our universe, our Mum, Jude McFarlane.
Mum was well known for her courage, fun-loving nature and passion for life. To honour our Mum, we decided to arrange a fundraiser in her name with all proceeds to be given to the Cancer Care Centre.
Whilst Mum had the support of many organisations and individuals throughout her journey with cancer, she spoke very fondly of the support received from the Cancer Care Centre.
Mum found the meditation sessions in particular, most beneficial to her both in mind, body and soul.
Through attending meditation, Mum met many beautiful people, on a similar journey to her own; these were friendships she treasured dearly. Mum was eager to share the benefits of these sessions and we, her children and a few of her friends, were fortunate enough to join Mum on occasion.
We set out with the City to Bay as the fundraising challenge and encouraged friends and family to join us. Whether running or walking, 12km or 3km, the more the merrier. We exceeded all expectations. On Sunday 18 September, over 70 participants could be seen flocking Anzac Highway in bright red ‘Jogging for Jude’ t-shirts.
There was a united energy of optimism and collaboration, not just amongst the J4J team but all the 30,000 participants.
Thanks to the generosity of our community of friends and family ‘Jogging for Jude’ raised in excess of $8,000 for the Cancer Care Centre.
The willingness of people to participate, and their generosity, left us feeling completely humbled. We sincerely thank everyone who contributed.
We have since visited the Cancer Care Centre where we plan to decorate a large flower box in Mum’s memory at the front entrance. It is also intended that the meditation room will be provided with new cushions and candles.
We thank the Cancer Care Centre for all of the support provided to Mum and hope that they continue with their generous support and services provided to help other individuals, families and friends on their journey with cancer.
